The short answer
The typeface must stay legible at the sizes planned on the garment. Before choosing a very decorative style, visually test the longest surname and numbers that could look alike.
What to consider
Assess the typeface on the variant’s real colour and together with the sponsors: lettering that works in isolation can lose clarity in a full layout. Distinguish the desired font from a simple image of the lettering. If the typeface isn’t available or can’t be used for that project, ask for an equivalent proposal before approving.
How to prepare your project
In the notes, give the font name if you know it, and attach a reference to explain the effect you want. Check capitals, accents, spacing and number proportions. For mixed supplies, check that the setting works on both the smallest and the largest garment. Avoid changing typeface halfway through the list without separating the groups.
