The short answer
When a colour matters, send an agreed reference together with the file. Expressions like “bright blue” or a photo taken in the gym don’t identify a shade precisely enough.
What to consider
The screen, the photo’s lighting and the medium affect what you see. A catalogue code identifies the product variant; it doesn’t automatically replace a sponsor’s colour reference. Keep these two pieces of information separate: the garment colour and the colour required for the brand mark. Don’t attribute to a digital preview a colour certification it doesn’t have.
How to prepare your project
Attach the brand guidelines when available and write down the reference used by the partner. Say whether the logo must keep its original colours or use an approved version. Check the contrast in the draft, and flag straight away if the commercial agreement requires a physical colour check before production.
Before continuing
- Garment variant distinct from the logo
- Reference provided by the brand
- Preview limits acknowledged
Is the colour name enough?
It can describe the intention, but a binding colour needs a more precise reference to be checked with the style centre.
